Loldia Farm Naivasha

Private Ranch & Conservancy

Loldia Farm is a historic 6,500-acre private ranch and wildlife conservancy located on the northwestern shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. With over a century of family stewardship, the property has remained in the Hopcraft family for more than 100 years and is best known for hosting Loldia House, a colonial-era farmhouse now managed by the Governors’ Camp Collection.

Originally built in the early 1940s using local stone, Loldia House reflects Kenya’s settler heritage while maintaining a working ranch identity. Historically renowned for one of Kenya’s finest Friesian cattle herds, the farm continues to operate as both a productive agricultural estate and a thriving wildlife conservancy. Wild animals such as hippos, zebras, and giraffes roam freely alongside livestock, creating a rare coexistence between ranching and conservation. The property holds a GOLD Eco Rating from Eco-Tourism Kenya, underscoring its strong environmental stewardship and sustainable land management practices.

Accommodation at Loldia Farm is offered through two primary options. Loldia House provides luxury lodging with nine en-suite rooms spread across the main farmhouse, garden cottages, and exclusive lakeshore suites featuring private plunge pools and direct lake views. The décor preserves its classic colonial charm, with stone fireplaces, wide verandahs, and traditional English-style interiors. Ajabu House, a separate private residence on the ranch, offers an exclusive-use option ideal for families or small groups seeking privacy, with self-catering flexibility available.

Activities at Loldia Farm emphasize immersive, low-impact experiences. Guests can enjoy guided nature walks within a rewilded 700-acre zone, night game drives to spot elusive species such as leopards and aardvarks, and community visits to Loldia Primary School. Boat safaris on Lake Naivasha and Lake Oloiden provide opportunities for birdwatching and hippo sightings, while excursions can be arranged to Lake Nakuru National Park (approximately two hours away), Hell’s Gate National Park, and Mount Longonot for hiking adventures.

Special interest experiences include access to the Kenya Bird of Prey Trust (Naivasha Raptor Centre) and guided forest walks in the nearby Eburu Forest, making Loldia Farm a strong choice for birders and conservation-minded travelers.

For those seeking a historic ranch stay in Naivasha, a colonial-style lakeside lodge, or a private conservancy experience near Lake Naivasha, Loldia Farm offers heritage, sustainability, and wildlife immersion within one of the Rift Valley’s most storied landscapes.
